SEO Guidelines for Higher Google Rankings

Until some wizard has cracked the elusive mana of Google ranking SEO guidelines, this here is your best bet.

1. Give absolute priority to your content.

  • Create Effective Content. Content should be real and easy to read. Real-world case studies are a sure bet, as examples, metaphors or pertinent to your website content. So is the best Introduction, one that captures the reader (visitor) from the get go. To do this and more, the golden rule is: Make your content EXTRA, SUPER-DUPER Easy to read… and understand.
  • Answer the Questions that Need Answering. Address them in your content. There is a great deal of Q&A social platforms out there (Quora or your forum of choice). If you repeatedly see the same type of questions in these sites or your type a key word and the site appears in the top three organic results, this indicates that said question needs better answers and/or such keyword is not very competitive… alas, it is your chance to seize it and build traffic-driving links. It is also a good idea to actually answer questions yourself in such sites and establish your expertise.

2. Link Building is key.

  • Outbound Linking. That is, quality linking, is always a good idea. There seems to be a correlation between this and heightened Google ranking.
  • Steal your competitor’s broken links. “Stealing” here is all about finding out what broken links your competitors have and serving up your own, point-specific content. Not as hard as it seems: there is a report named Ahrefs Site Explorer that reports on broken backlinks.

3. On-Page SEO makes your otherwise awesome content shine… and more.

  • On-Page SEO. This is just common sense and is normally the responsibility of your coder/builder. Your main keyword needs to be on your Title Tag… and other important locations, like your Meta Description, where you should also develop some of your most poignant content. This is like your ad on the Google results page.
  • Mobile & Image optimization. Just make sure your site looks great on every and all mobile devices, Oss and screen sizes. This may (or may not) have a lot to do with optimizing your images aggressively, seeing how Google image search can be a big traffic driver.

4. Keyword Research increases your traffic.

  • Aim First for Low-Competition Keywords. New to market. Low authority. No acumen. Whatever your category, ranking high on keywords is a tough affair. Sop aim for the less competitive ones and start building reputation and traffic. Use a Keyword Difficulty (KD) tool for help.
  • True Traffic Potential. Check with your field’s number 1 ranking page. Combine knowledge of leading keywords with the Keywords Explorer Overview report. The combo will allow you to understand the power behind a dual keyword (short tail) and long-tail search goal for your very own website.
